Data sources and licences

Citylith builds cities from open map data and from elevation and building data that governments publish. Each source has its own licence. This page lists them and the credit each one asks for.

For each build, the Citylith panel names the elevation source it used and shows its credit. Whole-city builds made as tiles also get a credits file that lists only the sources that city used. Keep the credits with the model when you deliver or sell it.

Map data

OpenStreetMap: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. A city built by Citylith is a Produced Work derived from the OpenStreetMap database. Show the credit wherever the model or its renders are used. openstreetmap.org/copyright

Elevation

Global default

Terrarium elevation tiles (Mapzen / AWS Terrain Tiles), assembled from SRTM, GMTED2010, ETOPO1, NED, EU-DEM and others. Full attribution.

Government bare-earth surveys

Where one of these covers the area, a build uses it instead of the global tiles. A build uses one source at most, and the plugin names it.

3D buildings

Where governments publish measured 3D buildings (LOD2), Citylith uses them. Everywhere else, buildings come from the map.
